Kyle Ali serves Reef Without Borders as a Consultant Marine Biologist and Social Media Manager, bringing together a scientist's attention to detail and a communicator's gift for connecting people to a cause they can believe in.

Kyle is currently completing a Bachelor of Science in Marine Biology at the University of Belize, expected in December 2026. His undergraduate thesis examines how repeated freezing and thawing affect the size and weight measurements of Caribbean spiny lobsters, work that reflects his broader interest in the data behind healthy, well-managed fisheries. His research has also contributed to a peer-reviewed study on microplastic contamination along Belize's coastline, published in the Marine Pollution Bulletin.

Before joining Reef Without Borders, Kyle built a strong foundation in field and analytical marine science. As an Operations and Data Systems Support Intern with the Wildlife Conservation Society's Belize Program, he managed and quality-checked large reef-monitoring datasets in MERMAID and supported coral bleaching and disease surveys. He has also conducted fisheries surveys with the Toledo Institute for Development and Environment, studied mangrove and seagrass ecosystems with the University of Belize Environmental Research Institute, and supported coastal community surveys for the Belize Sustainable Ocean Plan through the Coastal Zone Management Authority and Institute. As a PADI Advanced Open Water Diver with dozens of research-focused dives across Belize's reefs and atolls, Kyle is as comfortable collecting data underwater as he is analyzing it at a desk.

Kyle is skilled in R for data cleaning, statistical analysis, ecological modelling, and visualization, along with GIS mapping, MERMAID, and Microsoft Excel. This technical foundation shapes how he approaches his role at Reef Without Borders: helping ensure that conservation data is accurate, organized, and ready to inform real decisions about reef health.

That same care for accuracy carries into his work managing Reef Without Borders' social media. Kyle helps turn scientific findings and fieldwork into clear, engaging content, sharing reef-restoration stories, marine science education, volunteer opportunities, and the everyday impact of conservation work happening in Belizean waters. For Kyle, good science communication is simple: keep it honest, keep it clear, and help people see themselves as part of the solution.

Outside of his marine science work, Kyle is a dedicated power bodybuilder, a discipline that reflects the same consistency and long-term focus he brings to his research and conservation work.
