Questions

Adoption FAQ

Can I choose what species my coral is? +
Species selection is guided by our Director of Dive Operations and UP MSI science team based on what is ecologically appropriate for the specific restoration site at the time of planting. We prioritize heat-tolerant species that have the best chance of long-term survival. We will include the species name in your planting report.
What if my coral does not survive? +
We document and report honestly. If your coral does not survive we will tell you at the 6-month update and explain the likely cause. Coral mortality is part of restoration ecology and that data makes our science better. In cases of early mortality we will work to replant a replacement coral at no additional cost.
Can I visit my coral in Cebu? +
Yes. If you are planning to dive in Cebu, email us at info@reefwithoutborders.org and we will connect you with our Director of Dive Operations, Dindo Paquibot, who can take you to your coral's exact GPS location. There is nothing like diving to see your own coral on the reef.
Can I adopt more than one coral? +
Absolutely. Each $100 adoption sponsors one coral fragment. If you want to adopt multiple corals, complete the form multiple times or email us at info@reefwithoutborders.org and we can set up a bundled adoption. Corporate teams often adopt 10 or more corals together.
Is my adoption tax-deductible? +
Reef Without Borders is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit (EIN 42-2691547). All donations including coral adoptions are tax-deductible as allowed by law. You will receive a confirmation email with your receipt immediately after completing your adoption.
