Giving & Donations
Yes. Reef Without Borders is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in formation. While our IRS determination is being processed, tax-deductible donations are available through our fiscal sponsorship arrangement with Earth Island Institute. You will receive a tax receipt for every donation. Once our 501(c)(3) determination is confirmed, all donations will be fully tax-deductible and we will notify all supporters.
You can donate securely on our Donate page. We accept one-time and monthly gifts through our secure payment processor. You can also Adopt a Coral for $100, sponsor a full Reef Rescue Dive, or explore other giving options including corporate partnerships and donor-advised funds.
60% of every dollar goes directly to field operations and reef restoration. 25% funds science partnerships and underwater documentation. 10% supports community education programs. Only 5% goes to administration and fundraising. Every mission is filmed and published so you can see exactly what your donation made possible. Visit our Impact & Transparency page for the full breakdown.
Yes. Monthly giving is our most impactful option because it lets us plan field operations in advance with a reliable funding base. You can set up a recurring monthly gift on our Donate page by selecting the monthly option before completing your gift. You can cancel or change your amount at any time.
Donations are generally non-refundable as they are put to work immediately in our programs. However, if you believe a donation was made in error such as a duplicate charge or a technical issue please contact us at info@reefwithoutborders.org within 30 days and we will work with you to resolve it.
Programs
For $100, you sponsor a specific coral fragment at one of our Cebu restoration sites. We give your coral a name, photograph it at planting, and send you documented progress reports with photos at six months and twelve months post-transplant. Your coral's location is GPS-recorded and its survival data is published in The Reef Archive. Learn more on our Adopt-A-Coral page.
We are building a volunteer dive program for certified divers who want to participate in restoration missions in Cebu. Spots are limited and we prioritize divers with conservation experience. Contact us through the Contact page and select Volunteer we will add you to our interest list and reach out when spots open.
Every mission is documented on underwater camera and published on our YouTube channel and our blog. Subscribe to our newsletter for mission reports sent directly to your inbox. Follow us on Instagram and Facebook for real-time field updates.
The Reef Archive is our living digital record of reef health at every site we work. It includes baseline reef surveys conducted before restoration begins, coral planting records, six-month and twelve-month recovery documentation, and biodiversity data. All records are publicly accessible. It is our commitment that the scientific record of what we find and what we restore belongs to the world not just to our organization.
About the Reefs
Coral reefs cover less than one percent of the ocean floor yet shelter a quarter of all marine life and feed over a billion people worldwide. They protect coastlines from storm surge and erosion, generate an estimated $375 billion in economic value annually, and provide compounds used in medical treatments for cancer, HIV, and other diseases. Visit our Coral Reefs 101 page for a comprehensive educational guide.
The Philippines sits at the heart of the Coral Triangle the most biodiverse marine region on Earth, containing 76% of all known coral species. Our founder has dived Philippine waters for 25 years and has firsthand knowledge of how dramatically these reefs have changed. More than 50% of Philippine reefs are now rated in poor or fair condition. The need is urgent, the access is established, and our science partnership with the University of the Philippines Marine Science Institute is already in place.
Yes and this is the scientific foundation of everything we do. Research shows that reefs in areas with well-managed marine protected areas recover from bleaching events two to four times faster than unprotected reefs facing the same climate conditions. Science confirms that corals can adapt and survive when local threats are reduced. Reef Without Borders works to create those conditions: restored coral cover, reduced local pressure, and a global community paying close attention.

Reef Without Borders was founded by Clarisa Strohmeyer, a Filipina-American communications professional, 25-year scuba diver, blogger, and content creator based in Houston, Texas. She has dived Philippine waters extensively and built this organization because documentation without action was no longer enough. Read her full story on our About page.
